OMW/3.31.09

Today's Prompt: How have you inspired or motivated someone else?

I don't really know if I have inspired someone. I guess I motivate people on a daily basis in my job. I try to be as positive as I can so that we can get good people to hang around a little longer than, oh, 6 months. I love my job and loved my job as a case manager (until the last few months) and I try very hard to motivate them to WANT to do good and stay with the company because it really is a good one to work for.

OMW/3.30.09

Today's Prompt: Write about a business you would like to start.

A boutique! That sells jewelry, unique clothes (Ivy Jane?), candles, Yellow Box flip-flops, holiday home decor, artwork and pottery made by Katie, anything else I may want to sell! I would also have it to where people could register there for baby or wedding showers. I will eventually do this. How fun would it be to go to market in Dallas and shop for days?! On a side note, didn't I already answer something similar to this?

Card Carrying Member...

...of Shopaholics Anonymous.
Anyway...

I have never shopped at Avenue, but I was browsing around and figured I would check it out. They had a few cute things. I got this... ...and this:
I guess I will find out what the quality is like in a few days.

OMW/3.29.09

Today's Prompt: In what way (besides writing for one minute) will you be creative today?

I made a reminder earlier today that will hopefully help me look on the bright side of things. I even laminated it. That's creative, right? You can see it here if you are interested.

Made In The Shade

I got these sunglasses the other day and I can't decide if I like them or not. It's probably too late now to decide that. I like some Brighton things, but some of their stuff is a little much. Are these gaudy? Would you wear them?

In the midst of adversity, it is often difficult to find the good in things and to remember to be thankful for the things that are right. I made this today as a reminder to just keep positive. I plan on keeping it in my day planner, since that is something I look at on a daily basis.

- Serenity Prayer ("God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change; Courage to change the things I can; and Wisdom to know the difference.")

- "Plant your dreams and miracles will grow."

- "The time to be happy is now."

- "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain."

- "There is always always always something to be thankful for."

- "This prayer was different...a humble and overwhelming urge to say thank you for all of the blessed things going right."

For Those Who May Wonder

Honey: "Honey, people are going to think that is me!"

Me: "I will just say it was you in your younger years. Besides, it's not like you still look like that."

Honey: "Where did you find that picture anyway?"

Me: "I googled 'mullet'. Duh."

Zebra Love

When we were in San Antonio a few weeks ago, I fell in love with a zebra hide, but I wasn't loving the price tag. $450 to be exact. I came across this one on eBay for $213.75 with free shipping. I think it would look great in our guest bedroom especially once we put wood floors in. Do I NEED it? Should I get it? Hmmm...

Today's Prompt: Write about a magical moment you've experienced.

In 2006, Jevon and I went to Las Vegas and saw David Copperfield. At the end of the show, he made 12 people disappear and I was one of them! That was one of the coolest experiences I have ever had! We got to meet him and got an autographed picture. When the show was over and we were leaving, everyone was asking, "How did he do it?!?!" My lips are sealed :)

Jevon and I went to an auction today and came home with 4 Belson picnic tables. These go for $700 when bought new and we got them for $475 a piece. What a deal!

OMW/3.27.09

Today's Prompt: Write a brief, creative, fictional piece about time travel.

I hopped in the car with Doc as we traveled back to 1995. I was in my room and Stephanie and Katie were sticking their little fingers under my bedroom door, standing in my doorway, begging to come in my room, etc. and I was being a mean older sister and yelling at them to, "GET OUT!!!" I am now back in my black and white and sunflower room and I am telling them, "Come in!! Come sit on my bed and watch TV with me, I love getting to spend this time with you. You are both so cute and so sweet and I love ya'll so much."

It's That Time Of Year Again...

Please raise your big toes and repeat after me:

As a member of the Cute Girl Sisterhood, I pledge to follow the rules when I wear sandals and other open toe shoes:

I promise to always wear sandals that fit. That my toes will not hang over and touch the ground, nor will heels spill over the backs. And that the sides and tops of my feet will not pudge out between the straps.

I will go polish-free or vow to keep the polish fresh, intact and chip-free.

I will not cheat and just touch up the big toe.

I will sand down any mounds of skin before they turn hard and yellow.

I will shave the hairs off big toe.

I will not wear pantyhose even if my misinformed girlfriend, coworker, mother, sister tells me the toe seam really will stay under my toes if I tuck it there.

If a strap breaks, I won't duct-tape, pin, glue or tuck it back into place hoping it will stay put. I will get my shoe fixed or toss it.

I will not live in corn denial; rather I will lean on my good friend Dr. Scholl's if my feet need him.

I will resist the urge to buy jelly shoes at Payless for the low, low price of $4.99 even if my feet are small enough to fit into the kids' sizes. This is out of concern for my safety and the safety of others. No one can walk properly when standing in a pool of sweat and I would hate to take someone down with me as I fall and break my ankle.

I will take my toe ring off toward the end of the day if my toes swell and begin to look like Vienna sausages.

I will be brutally honest with my girlfriend/sister/coworker when she asks me if her feet are too ugly to wear sandals. Someone has to tell her that her toes are as long as my fingers and no sandal makes creepy feet look good.

Got it? Now run out and buy yourself a pair of Yellow Box flip-flops. I have a wide foot and they are by far the most comfortable (and cutest) brand I have found.

See? I can't get enough!

Second Place goes to Volatile's "Wahine" style. They usually come in animal prints, but I'm not sure they are still in production. I have seen them in a few boutiques, so just keep an eye out. I walked all around San Antonio in a pair of these and my feet did not hurt at all. They have a perfect height heel and are super comfy.

And Third Place goes to Reef. I love the "Butter" style. They go with everything, come in all kinds of colors, and have a heel that is the perfect height.

How pretty is this bluebonnet? I saw a patch of them by a stop sign and thought I would take time to stop and smell the roses bluebonnets.

Stacey Meets Maurice's

I go to Big Spring quite a bit for work, but I don't shop a whole lot when I am there because there is never much time to, however, yesterday a new case manager introduced me to Maurice's. Now, I have never been here and to be honest, probably would not have ever gone had it not been suggested. So, I went in and came out with these shirts and necklaces. I just took them out of the bag, so they are a bit wrinkled. Just picture them nice and ironed :)
I thought this would be cute with either white linen pants or trouser jeans with the white cardigan I blogged about here.
I would imagine that this will be cute under a number of things.
I may go back. I dunno. Decent stuff for the price.

Must.Stay.Off.The.Internet

Remember when I got these capris from New York & Co.? Well, they came in and I liked them so much I decided to get them in 3 other colors: French Taupe, Pastry Brown, and Sidewalk Grey. The good thing is--they are now $22.95 instead of $32.95. Score!

This shirt also came in and the color was awful... so I returned it and got Bright White and Brown Earth...

As I have mentioned before, I don't do sleeveless, so the above shirts are perfect for layering since they are so light in weight. I also got this and this from Torrid and used coupon code "BDAY09T" to get $10.00 off my order.

OMW/3.26.09

Today's Prompt: Why do you think American students lag behind students from many other countries, in math and science proficiency?

Oh gosh I am the last person to talk about this because I am that student that lagged behind. Let me remind those of you who may not know or who have forgotten: I took math 7 times in college. Yes, 7. I suck at math. I have always thought it was boring and pointless. I finally wound up passing "Contemporary Math" which teaches you how to balance checkbooks, loan interests, etc. So, yeah I can't answer this because I have no idea. Shitty teachers? Underpaid teachers? Lazy students? Uncaring parents? I don't know.
